Oil Mixing
During custody transfer of crude oil from either ship to shore or facility to facility, it is economically important to detect the total percentage of sediment and water in the transfer. An allowance for these contaminants must be made in determining the final pricing. The standard technique has been to employ automatic sampling systems to extract a representative sample for analysis from the crude oil during transfer. The American Petroleum Institute points out that there must be " adequate distribution of free water at the sampling point to allow representative sampling." The API states, " The automatic sampler probe must be located at a point in the pipeline where the flowing stream is well mixed."

EESIMIX’s oil mixers are inline mixers which use the energy in the process to create homogeneous mixtures which combined with crude oil automatic samples or watercut monitoring devices improve overall measurements and accuracy since the water and oil do not readily mix. EESIMIX inline static mixers can be fabricated out of standard or exotic materials from 1 inch to 48 inches. An optional crude oil sampler port can be supplied.

Water is a common form of contamination of lubricant and equipment. It can enter through the seals, vents, breathers, or any other openings in the housing. The amount of water in the lubricant is most often caused by environmental conditions such as humidity, rain, and large temperature changes. People can also cause water ingression; through steam quenching or wash down of the equipment, and improper storage and handling methods.
